David Johnson, a longtime player for Liverpool, has died at the age of 71.
The former England striker is only the second player in Merseyside derby history to score for both Liverpool and Everton.
A former player for Ipswich Town FC, Johnson was an integral part of the 1970s Liverpool team that dominated the league and won four league titles and three European Cups under manager Bob Paisley.
On Wednesday, Ipswich Town FC responded by tweeting, “The Club is devastated to learn the demise of former striker David Johnson.”
From 1972 through 1976, David played with the Blues. God grant him eternal rest and dies at age 71″
